A semi-truck driver’s illegal U-turn in Florida led to a deadly crash last Tuesday that left three people dead. Newly released dashcam footage shows the moment the truck began turning across the Florida Turnpike before a black minivan collided with its side.

The video shows the driver, Harjinder Singh, attempting a U-turn in the middle of the road, seemingly without looking in his mirrors. Unbeknownst to him, a black Chrysler was traveling in the left lane, which he turned directly in front of. As the truck was roughly halfway across the road, the minivan can be seen slamming into the side of the truck.
Charges and Background
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), Singh has been in the United States illegally since 2018 and had obtained a commercial driver’s license in California. He has been arrested and charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and is facing deportation.
“The actions taken by the Defendant while operating a commercial tractor-trailer are both shocking and criminal,” executive director of FLHSMV, Dave Krener said. “Three people lost their lives as a result of his recklessness, and countless friends and family members will experience the pain of their loss forever. Harjinder Singh is in custody on state vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations.”

The Chrysler was being driven by a 30-year-old man from Florida City at the time of the collision, WPTV reports. He was transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, but later died from his injuries. He was killed alongside a 54-year-old male passenger from Miami and a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach. Neither Singh nor his male passenger was injured in the crash.

Investigators said Singh made the turn from the right lane at an “official use only” turnaround, an area reserved strictly for Florida Highway Patrol and other emergency vehicles. By attempting to cut across traffic in this restricted zone, Singh placed every nearby driver in immediate danger.
