Honda Found Europe’s Best Driving Roads, Which Are Your Favorite?

  • Honda launched a site with 127 of Europe’s most spectacular and scenic driving roads.
  • The routes span 25 countries including Slovakia, Spain, Italy, and the Scottish Highlands.
  • Civic Type R was recently killed in Europe after failing new driver monitoring mandates.

The Honda Civic Type R is dead in Europe (for now, at least), but the brand still wants its enthusiastic owners to enjoy their cars on the finest roads imaginable. With this in mind, Honda has released a special interactive map showcasing 120 of the finest driving roads across Europe. Best of all, you don’t need a Honda to access the map.

Accessible at Honda Dream Drives, the website has a total of 127 routes across 25 European countries. These include stunning roads in the far north of Scotland to mountainous roads in Slovakia, and no fewer than four stunning drives on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

Roads worth the trip

Some inclusions need no introduction. Among the most famous roads included in the map are Italy’s Stelvio Pass, the Transfăgărășan Highway in Romania, and the mountains around Pianezze, Italy. One of the lesser known routes, yet one of the finest, is an epic road from Marbella in Spain to the small city of Ronda, which I had the pleasure of driving several years ago.

“Creating a unique, interactive map from this specially commissioned and unprecedented collection of roads is the perfect way to sign-off the Civic Type R in Europe,” Honda Motor Europe general manager of corporate communications, Nik Pearson said.

“As the pinnacle of Honda performance and handling in recent history, these icons really come alive when driven for fun, and this unique map enables driving enthusiasts to enjoy their potential wherever they are in Europe. It’s the perfect guide for old, new and future generations of Honda vehicles and harnesses the spirit of Type R to fully deliver on our commitment to the ‘joy of driving’.”

More than just pins on a map

Each featured route comes with useful details and a direct link to Google Maps, so drivers can plan a trip without worry. The focus isn’t only on famous destinations but on capturing the spirit of what makes driving fun, whether it’s sweeping mountain bends or quiet coastal stretches.

Honda confirmed the demise of the Civic Type R in Europe back in July. The car is being killed off because it fails to comply with new EU mandates necessitating the installation of driver monitoring technologies in all new vehicles. It’s possible that the Type R brand will return to Europe at some stage, but it’s unknown when, nor what kind of performance-focused model it will bring.
