Porsche Still Hasn’t Replaced The 918 But This Designer Just Did

A model like the 960 GT RS could put Porsche back at the top of the hypercar pecking order

Porsche Still Hasn’t Replaced The 918 But This Designer Just Did

  • Porsche study by Ugur Sahin blends GT comfort with hypercar aggression.
  • 960 GT RS design cues reference both the 918 Spyder and current 911 lineup.
  • High-end hybrid rivals suggest Porsche may rethink Mission X production plans.

It has been more than two years since the Mission X concept arrived as Porsche’s vision of an all-electric hypercar, widely tipped to succeed the 918 Spyder. Since then, the company has stayed noticeably quiet about whether it plans to build it. That silence may be deliberate, as an electric-only flagship would face a tougher market now that rivals like Ferrari’s F80 and McLaren’s W1 are leaning on hybrid power.

While the Mission X remains suspended between showpiece and production reality, Dutch studio Ugur Sahin Design has stepped in with its own interpretation of what a Porsche hypercar could look like. The result is the 960 GT RS, a digital creation pitched as a successor to the 918 Spyder, though it charts a very different path from the Mission X.

A Grand Tourer in Disguise

Rather than being positioned as a back-to-basics hypercar, the designer has imagined the 960 GT RS as a hyper-GT “that combines long-distance comfort with breathtaking performance.” It definitely looks as exotic as a new flagship from Porsche should.

The front end has hints of 918 Spyder and is highlighted by narrow LEDs sitting in front of a pair of gaping air intakes. A sharp splitter extends across the lower edge, giving the nose a purposeful stance. The tightly spoked wheels feel less convincing, yet the profile quickly redeems itself with sweeping air intakes, sculpted skirts, and vents tucked behind the front arches that inject drama into the design.

There’s plenty to like about the rear half of the car, too. For example, there’s an intricate engine cover with dozens of small cutouts, a deployable spoiler, and an LED light bar similar to what’s found on the current Porsche 911. A large diffuser has also been added, together with dual tailpipes.

If Porsche does intend to launch a successor to the 918 Spyder, it’d be wise to do so as quickly as possible. Demand for multi-million-dollar exotics has never been higher, and this is a segment of the market that Porsche is missing out on.
