SGMW’s Wuling Xingguang 730, which will be the most affordable MPV in China now available for pre-order

SGMW’s new mid-size MPV, the Xingguang (Starlight) 730, officially opened for pre-orders on September 23, 2025. Customers who place online orders before the official market launch will receive a 2,000 yuan (278 USD) discount with a 1,000 yuan (139 USD) deposit. The first batch of vehicles has already arrived in 220 cities across China.

The Xingguang 730 is built on Wuling’s new energy architecture and incorporates the company’s “Sky-Spirit-God” technology series. What sets this MPV apart is its powertrain flexibility, offering conventional fuel, plug-in hybrid, and pure electric options to meet diverse customer needs.

The front.

Each powertrain variant features distinctive styling cues. The fuel and plug-in hybrid versions sport a bold, large grille design, while the electric model features a minimalist approach with only the lower grille retained and an all-black treatment for enhanced visual distinction. All versions include dual-bar LED daytime running lights and aerodynamic side channels that strengthen the vehicle’s visual identity.

The side.

The Xingguang 730 measures 4,910mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,770mm in height, with a 2,910mm wheelbase.

The rear.

Inside, the vehicle features a floating centre display complemented by physical buttons for operation. A wireless phone charging pad enhances convenience. The Starlight 730 adopts a 2+2+3 seven-seat configuration, with second-row seats offering recline adjustment for passenger comfort across various scenarios.

The powertrain options cater to different priorities. The fuel variant employs a 1.5T engine with 130 kW (174 hp). The plug-in hybrid combines a 78kW 1.5L engine with an electric motor. The all-electric version features a 100 kW (134 hp) motor paired with either a 54.5kWh or 60kWh battery pack, delivering CLTC ranges of 450km and 500km, respectively.

SAIC-GM-Wuling cars are renowned for their affordability in China. Although the price of the Xingguang 730 has not yet been announced, CarNewsChina estimates its starting price will be around 15,000 USD, making it the cheapest MPV.
