Saic H5 electric SUV from Huawei got 10,000 orders in one hour in China

The Saic H5 new energy SUV from Huawei, with EREV and BEV powertrain variants, got 10,000 orders in one hour after the launch in China. Starting at 159,800 yuan (22,500 USD), it features the HarmonyOS cockpit and an advanced driver assistance system.

Saic is the fifth brand under the Huawei umbrella that sells in Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) stores across China alongside Aito, Luxeed, Stelato, and Maextro. Saic is the joint brand between Huawei and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC). It was previously known by the Chinese name Shangjie.

The Saic H5 is a mid-size crossover with dimensions of 4780/1910/1664 mm. Its wheelbase stretches to 2,840 mm. This model has a clean and minimalistic exterior styling with a few distinguishing features. It has an active air intake and thin headlights in the front. From the back, the Saic H5 offers a single taillight unit. Other highlights include conventional door handles and a LiDAR on the roof.

The interior of the Saic H5 aligns with other cars in HIMA stores. It has a 15.6-inch floating touch screen, a stalk-mounted gear shifter, a D-shaped steering wheel, and almost no physical buttons. The car offers 50W wireless phone charging pads and a 2.3-square-meter sunroof. Its rear seats have adjustable backrests. The trunk has a volume of 601 liters. The electric variant of this vehicle offers a front trunk with a standard volume of 124 liters.

The high-end trims of the Saic H5 offer the ADS 4 system from Huawei. It comprises a 192-line LiDAR, three 4D mm-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 11 cameras. It is suitable for address-to-address navigation assistance and the forward, rear, and side collision avoidance.

Saic H5’s interior

The BEV variant of the Saic H5 offers two battery variants for 64.6 kWh and 80 kWh, suitable for 535 – 655 km of range. They send power to an electric motor for 150 – 180 kW (201 – 241 hp), depending on the trim level. This model boasts an energy consumption of 13.4 kWh per 100 km. The EREV variant of the Shangjie H5 has the same 150 kW electric motor as the BEV version. It is complemented by a 1.5-liter generator with a peak power of 72 kW (97 hp). Thanks to a 32.6 kWh battery, it can run up to 230 km in electric mode under CLTC conditions.

Saic H5 orders

According to Saic officials, the H5 SUV received 10,000 orders in one hour after the launch in China. For comparison, the new Aito M7 from Huawei and Seres got 30,000 orders in the same period while having a higher starting price of 279,800 yuan (38,900 USD). So, the Saic H5’s result is okay but not exceptional. We will remind you that it has six powertrain levels. Prices are as follows:

  • Saic H5 Pro EREV – 159,800 yuan  (22,500 USD)
  • Saic H5 Max EREV – 179,800 yuan  (25,300 USD)
  • Saic H5 Pro EV – 165,800 yuan  (23,300 USD)
  • Saic H5 Pro Long Range EV – 179,800 yuan  (25,300 USD)
  • Saic H5 Max EV – 185,800 yuan  (26,100 USD)
  • Saic H5 Max Long Range EV – 199,800 yuan  (28,100 USD)
