Nissan Turned The Dacia Duster Into A Baby Armada

  • Nissan teased the new Tekton SUV ahead of its 2026 debut in India.
  • It rides on CMF-B underpinnings shared with Renault and Dacia SUVs.
  • Patrol / Armada-inspired styling gives the Tekton a more premium look.

The compact SUV segment is about to get a lot more interesting. Nissan has offered a clearer look at its upcoming Tekton, scheduled to debut in 2026. The model will first launch in India before reaching other global markets. Essentially, the Tekton is a rebadged version of the latest Dacia Duster, which will also be sold in India under the Renault badge.

The Tekton name traces its roots to the Greek word for craftsman or builder. Initially announced in March 2024, the latest teasers reveal more of its styling, drawing strong inspiration from Nissan’s flagship Patrol, known as the Armada in North America. While much of its structure mirrors the Duster, the Tekton’s sharper detailing help distinguish it within the lineup.

A Duster With Armada Flair

The new model features a Nissan-specific design for the front end with C-shaped LED headlights and chrome inserts on the grille. We can also see the same sculpted hood as the Duster, albeit with Tekton lettering. The rugged front bumper sports aluminum-style inserts around the intakes, a design that is mirrored at the rear.

The sheet metal on the profile and the greenhouse are shared with Dacia’s SUV, although Nissan has added different side gills and new alloy wheels. The rear end features distinct taillights with Patrol / Armada-style LED graphics which are connected to the the Japanese brand’s emblem.

While we don’t know the exact measurements, the Tekton’s length should be very close to the 4,343 mm (171 inches) of the Dacia.

Nissan

During the video presentation, Nissan showed a single image of the dashboard that combines body-colored trim with glossy black and metal accents. The company didn’t show the digital cockpit but promises that the Tekton will have “advanced tech” and a “premium interior” calling it a “segment disruptor”.

Under the Skin

The Tekton will ride on the CMF-B architecture which underpins the entire Dacia lineup and several Renault, Mitsubishi and Nissan models in Europe. Details about the powertrain options remain under wraps, but we expect it to share turbocharged 1.0-liter and 1.3-liter units with the upcoming Renault Duster.

Nissan plans to officially unveil the Tekton in India in 2026, with sales beginning the same year. Production will take place at the Chennai plant, operated jointly with Renault.

While the company aims to strengthen its Indian footprint, it also intends to export the Tekton to select global markets. More details, including full specifications, will be announced closer to launch.

Competing models will include the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and VW Taigun, setting the Tekton against a packed and competitive lineup of compact SUVs
