This ’69 Camaro Went Back To The Future And Never Came Back Right

  • Custom 1969 Camaro restomod built with 3,000 hours of fabrication work.
  • Features a Borowski LSX V8 engine paired with a 2.91-liter supercharger.
  • Produces an immense 1,000 hp, sent to the rear wheels via 6-speed manual.

There’s no shortage of beautifully executed Chevy Camaro restomods out there, each a tasteful nod to muscle car glory. This 1969 example, though, clearly didn’t get that memo.

The machine you see here is a full-blown Frankenstein that’s making its way to auction next week. It certainly looks like it could melt asphalt on command, but it’s hard to picture many Camaro purists, or anyone with a soft spot for tasteful craftsmanship, lining up to bid. This one’s for the brave, the curious, or the chronically indifferent.

Listed for sale through Barrett-Jackson, this Camaro has an all-new body. It allegedly took 3,000 hours to fabricate and sports new fenders, made from steel, as well as custom front and rear bumpers.

There’s no denying the new panels add some aggression to the car, but they’re not exactly sleek, ruining some of the 1969 model’s original lines.

It’s not just the bodywork that marks this Chevy down. Whereas high-priced restomods‘ interiors are oftentimes covered in high-quality materials, this Camaro feels more like a budget build. There’s a simple three-spoke aftermarket steering wheel, a dashboard that looks like it’s been screwed together with random parts, and what appears to be a low-end head unit.

However, this Camaro does have some things going for it. First is the engine. It is now powered by a custom-built Borowski LSX V8 with a 2.91-liter supercharger and is pumping out 1,000 hp.

It also includes a custom cold air intake, stainless steel headers, and a custom radiator. Coupled to the engine is a Magnum six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.

Barrett-Jackson adds that the Chevy also includes Aldan coilovers and upgraded brakes from Wilwood. What’s not so nice are the wheels. They measure a massive 22×13 at the front and 24×15 at the rear, making them way too big for a car like this and inevitably impacting the quality of the ride.

No pre-auction estimate has been shared yet, but for anyone craving a radically overhauled Chevy Camaro and unfazed by questions of purity, this wild creation might be right up your alley. You can check out the auction right here.
