Remember When Dodge Killed The Durango V6? Yeah, About That

  • Dodge is bringing the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 back to the Durango.
  • It was dropped earlier this year as the 2026 model went Hemi-only.
  • The automaker implied the move was related to Hemi supply issues.

When Dodge introduced the 2026 Durango earlier this year, they revealed the model was going Hemi-only. This spelled the end of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, but it’s now making an unexpected comeback.

Currently available to order, the 2026 Durango GT offers a familiar V6 producing 295 hp (220 kW / 299 PS) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque. Its return means pricing has dropped from $42,695 to $38,995, which is a considerable savings of $3,700.

There’s one small caveat: the entry-level GT sends power to the rear wheels as standard. Opting for all-wheel drive adds $2,000 to the bill, which lowers the price difference to a more modest $1,700.

It’s probably worth shelling out the extra money as the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 produces 360 hp (268 kW / 365 PS) and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 6.2 seconds, which is a full 1.2 seconds faster than the V6.

What’s Behind Dodge’s Move?

Dodge didn’t say much about the move, but implied the V6’s return was related to supply constraints for the Hemi V8. As Dodge CEO Matt McAlear noted, “The Hemi is hot … and to keep that sales momentum going, we’re re-opening orders for the V6 Durango GT to help us meet Durango demand while supply of Hemi engines ramps up.”

Aside from those two engines, the 2026 Durango offers a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 710 hp (529 kW / 720 PS) and 645 lb-ft (874 Nm) of torque. It enables the $79,995 SRT Hellcat to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h).

These variants will be joined by the 2026 Durango R/T early next year. It’s slated to cost less than $50,000 and have a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 pumping out 475 hp (354 kW / 482 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque.
