- Stellantis unveiled the Basalt Vision concept at the Sao Paulo Motor Show.
- It features lowered suspension and 18-inch wheels with red brake calipers.
- Adds a diffuser, dual tailpipes, rear spoiler, but no performance upgrades.
The Citroen Basalt / C3 X is a budget fastback crossover sold in South America and India, built for sensible buyers who still want something with a bit of character. Despite its unpretentious origins, the automaker has rolled out a sportier concept version, currently on show at the 2025 Sao Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil.

The new concept, first teased in digital form during last year’s launch, carries the same Basalt Vision name used for the 2024 prototype. This latest version leans toward a performance-minded look, with a lower ride height and a handful of add-ons that give it a more sportier edge.

The lowered suspension and new 18-inch wheels do a decent job at making the Basalt look a bit more exciting, especially when compared to the clumsy high-riding production model with the 16-inch wheels.
However, what grabbed our attention is the oversized glossy black diffuser on the rear bumper, housing an F1-style brake light and dual chrome tailpipes.
The fastback tail of the Basalt has also gained black trim between the LED taillights, highlighting the ducktail spoiler, which is joined by a roof spoiler.
Other small details help sell the look: André Red accents trace the edges of the bodywork, decals run across the sides and hood, and Vision badges sit on the doors. The concept also keeps Citroen’s old double-chevron emblem, now finished in black.
The car itself is based on the Basalt Dark Edition, the top trim in Brazil, which means the changes are skin-deep. Despite its tougher stance, there are no performance upgrades hiding underneath.

Review: We Drove The New C5 Aircross And Lost Our Jeep’s Compass To Citroen’s Comfort
Power comes from the familiar turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, producing up to 128 hp (96 kW / 130 hp) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque when running on ethanol. That might not sound like much, but it’s still the most powerful setup in Citroen’s local portfolio.
It sends power to the front wheels through a CVT gearbox with seven simulated ratios.
The Basalt Vision seems more like a design experiment than a preview of an actual trim level, which would sit awkwardly in Citroen’s current lineup. Still, it wouldn’t be surprising if a mild appearance pack emerges from it, much like the C3 Sport Edition sold in India.

While the Citroen Basalt / C3 X will likely remain limited to South American and Indian markets, Fiat is working on a mechanically related fastback that will also be offered in Europe as part of the extended Panda family.
Besides the updated Vision Basalt, other Citroen exhibits at the Sao Paolo International Motor Show include the new generation of the C5 Aircross, the Ami Tonic and Buggy urban EVs, as well as the latest Formula E single-seater of the French brand.
