The new V27 may be sold overseas under the iCaur name due to trademark concerns

- The V27 is a rugged range-extender SUV with up to 449 horsepower.
- It features a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder with either one or two electric motors.
- Land Rover and Land Cruiser styling cues dominate the boxy retro design.
The name might make you do a double-take, but Chery’s iCar brand has been cranking out some surprisingly interesting models. The V27 is their latest effort, and it’s a chunky range-extender SUV that looks like a cross between a Land Rover and a Toyota Land Cruiser.
Surprisingly, it actually looks quite nice, and could be offered in several overseas markets, where it’ll be sold under the iCaur nameplate to avoid trademark issues.
Two versions are reportedly in the pipeline, both built around a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The engine is paired with an electric drivetrain, either a single motor mounted at the rear or dual motors providing all-wheel drive. The dual-motor setup is said to produce a substantial 449 horsepower, giving the V27 a performance edge that matches its tough looks.

Chery hasn’t disclosed the battery capacity just yet, but the V27 will reportedly offer up to 124 miles (200 km) of electric-only range on China’s more optimistic CLTC cycle. That positions it well among other range-extender SUVs, especially for those using it as a daily commuter with occasional off-road needs.
Styling That Rings a Bell (or Two)
Visually, the V27 looks tough, but not overtly so, combining some of the best elements from a Defender and the Land Cruiser offered in North America. Up front, there is a blacked-out bumper that incorporates a skid plate, while positioned high up on the fascia are square headlights with circular daytime running lights. A body-colored strip then runs between the lights.

Elsewhere, the iCar V27 features squared-off wheel arches, side steps, and large side windows with black trims. It has also been showcased with roof rails and, just like a Land Rover Defender, thick D-pillars that include V27 branding.
Chery’s designers have also done a fine job with the rear end of the SUV. As is customary for most SUVs like this, the spare wheel sits on the tailgate. The Land Rover inspiration then continues with four square LED taillights. Matching the front end is a black bumper.
In terms of size, the V27 measures 5,045 mm (198.6 inches) long, 1,976 mm (77.8 inches) wide, and 1,894 mm (74.5 inches) tall, riding on a 2,900 mm (114.1-inch) wheelbase. That places it between the Defender 110 and the extended Defender 130 in length. It’s also 40 mm (1.5 inches) longer than the U.S.-spec Toyota Land Cruiser, which goes by Land Cruiser Prado in some markets.
