Roush Takes The Nissan Frontier To New Extremes

  • Nissan and Roush have introduced the 2026 Frontier PRO-4X R.
  • It features an off-road focused suspension that provides a 2-inch lift.
  • The $47,960 truck also has revised styling and embroidered headrests.

The Ford Ranger Raptor might be the king of mid-size trucks, but it’s getting a little competition from Nissan and Roush Performance. They’ve joined forces for the first time to create the 2026 Frontier PRO-4X R.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){
adpushup.triggerAd(“0f7e3106-c4d6-4db4-8135-c508879a76f8”);
} else {
adpushup.triggerAd(“82503191-e1d1-435a-874f-9c78a2a54a2f”);
}
});

As the name suggests, the model is based on the Frontier PRO-4X but modified by Roush. As part of the makeover, the truck has been equipped with a titanium skid plate, titanium grille inserts, and titanium badging. They’re joined by Lava Red tow hooks and Roush front fender badges.

More notably, the model rides on unique 17-inch wheels that are wrapped in Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme tires. The former have a titanium finish, black lug nuts, and “R” center caps.

Interior changes are minor, but the model comes with special headrests featuring embroidered “R” logos. That’s not much to get excited about, but drivers will also find a 12.3-inch infotainment system as well as a 7-inch display in the instrument cluster.

The biggest upgrade is an all-new Roush Performance x Ohlins 2.0 Off-Road Suspension System, which provides a 2-inch (51 mm) lift. It features new upper control arms, coilover shocks with external reservoirs, and lightweight aluminum damper bodies. The tuning firm noted this delivers improved approach and departure angles as well as “superior damping control on the trail.”

Unfortunately, the 3.8-liter V6 engine appears to carryover untouched. This means we’re looking at an output of 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 281 lb-ft (381 Nm) of torque, which pales in comparison to the Raptor’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 that develops 405 hp (302 kW / 411 PS) and 430 lb-ft (582 Nm).

That being said, the 2026 Nissan PRO-4X R by Roush starts at $47,960. That’s $6,090 more than the standard PRO-4X, but $8,110 less than the Ranger Raptor. It also undercuts the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 as well as the Jeep Gladiator Mojave and Rubicon.
