This Alfa Romeo Restomod Laughs In The Face Of The Giulia QV

  • Totem unveiled the GT Super SP prototype, limited to just ten units worldwide.
  • Power comes from a 2.9-liter Italtecnica twin-turbo V6 producing 739 hp.
  • A gated six-speed manual crafted from billet aluminum sends power to the rear.

For years, the boutique Italian marque Totem Automobili has been turning heads with some of the most gorgeous Alfa Romeo-based restomods in existence. Soon, though, its chapter in this niche world will close.

Before stepping away, however, Totem has introduced a final, ultra-exclusive send-off: the GT Super SP, a Sport Prototipo edition limited to just ten examples worldwide.

The first, prototype n.00, was presented last weekend during The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, during Monterey Car Week. The standard GT Super is already spectacular, but the SP, standing for Sport Prototipo, is even more extraordinary and shows just how far a classic Alfa Romeo can be taken.

Compared to the regular GT Super, the new SP sits 130 mm (5.1 inches) wider thanks to extended carbon fiber wheel arches. The exhausts have been relocated from the rear to the sides thanks to a partnership with German aftermarket specialist Capristo. By removing the tailpipes from the rear, Totem was also able to craft a new diffuser, also from carbon fiber.

Carbon Meets Craftsmanship

Every body panel on the SP is crafted from carbon fiber, and this particular prototype wears a deep maroon finish set off by bronze detailing on the headlights, grille, wheels, mirrors, wipers, and window frames. The result is a car that blends delicacy with presence, a modernized Alfa that still carries an unmistakable elegance.

Engineering Beneath The Surface

Totem didn’t only work on the SP’s visuals. It also re-engineered the subframes, suspension geometry and installed new electronically adjustable suspension from ORAM. Then there’s the engine.

The classic coupe is powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 from Italtecnica that includes individual throttle bodies as well as direct and port fuel injection and delivers 730 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. Best of all, the V6 is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with a gated shifter crafted from billet aluminum.

The firm has also made significant interior alterations. There’s a new carbon fiber transmission tunnel, bronze components on the dashboard and gauges, and new switchgear just below the shifter. Other highlights include a custom steering wheel with a boost function, carbon fiber seats, and blue Alcantara throughout.
