She Kept Getting Tickets For Cars She’s Never Seen Let Alone Driven

  • California woman got tickets nationwide linked to her LUVSICK vanity plate.
  • Fake novelty plates mimicking hers were reportedly sold online by a retailer.
  • Lawyer’s letter led the company to remove the plates from its website.

Vanity license plates are popular with drivers who like to express themselves, but one California woman recently discovered an odd downside after receiving 15 tickets in the span of several months. They came from all across the country including as far away as Illinois and New Jersey.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){
adpushup.triggerAd(“0f7e3106-c4d6-4db4-8135-c508879a76f8”);
} else {
adpushup.triggerAd(“82503191-e1d1-435a-874f-9c78a2a54a2f”);
}
});

So what was the problem? A retailer selling a novelty license plate that resembled her real California plate reading “LUVSICK.” KCAL News reports Suzi Kiefer had to dispute each ticket, despite photos showing it wasn’t her Dodge Magnum being driven.

In effect, people appear to have been using the novelty “LUVSICK” plates to avoid getting tickets. Unbeknownst to them, those tickets were being sent to Kiefer.

Curious as to how this was happening, Kiefer did some digging and found a clothing company called Broken Promises. They were selling novelty plates that closely resembled her real plate, but there were several key differences as California was replaced by “Broken Promises,” while the date read “EMO” instead of an actual month.

While those items should have alerted authorities that the plate was fake, Kiefer was stuck dealing with the aftermath. However, she reportedly got a lawyer involved and they sent a cease-and-desist letter to the company, which eventually removed the novelty plate from their website.

This is where the problem lies as novelty plates are perfectly legal by themselves. So while Kiefer was able to get the tickets dismissed and the novelty plate removed from online stores, this could potentially happen all over again.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){
adpushup.triggerAd(“bb7964e9-07de-4b06-a83e-ead35079d53c”);
} else {
adpushup.triggerAd(“9b1169d9-7a89-4971-a77f-1397f7588751”);
}
});
