A fiery truck disaster wiped out five exotics on a rally route, leaving only one Corvette recognizable

- Five exotics were destroyed when a transporter caught fire in Chattanooga.
- The truck was hauling two McLarens, two Corvette C8s, and an Audi R8.
- Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the inferno that halted the rally.
Five supercars have been destroyed by an inferno in Chattanooga, Tennessee, while participating in the annual Crown Rally from Boston to Atlanta. The outcome could have been even worse if not for a quick-thinking motorist who spotted the danger and alerted the truck driver hauling the cars.

The incident happened last Thursday. According to the driver of the transporter that was carrying two McLaren 720Ss, a C8 Corvette Z06, a C8 Corvette Stingray, and an Audi R8, he was cruising down the interstate when another motorist told him that smoke was billowing from the trailer. He immediately pulled into a QuickTrip station and called 911.
Flames Take Hold
Despite his swift reaction, emergency crews were unable to arrive in time to save the vehicles. Photos shared by the Chattanooga Fire Department on Facebook show the interior of the trailer completely gutted by the blaze. The once-pristine collection of supercars was reduced to wreckage, with only one of the Corvettes still faintly recognizable.
It’s believed the exotic sports cars were being transported after a track day at Atlanta Motorsports Park, which had been part of the rally schedule.

Cause Still Uncertain
The local fire department haven’t said what started the fire, but based on the damage sustained, it’s been speculated the blaze may have started somewhere near the center of the trailer. The working theory is that one of the vehicles may have sparked the blaze, which ultimately caused an estimated $1.5 million in damages. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
While the sight of exotic cars burning inside a hauler is rare, fires involving car carriers themselves are not unusual. Just last month, several brand-new Teslas sustained damage in California when the transporter carrying them went up in flames.
