Nearly-New Wrangler 4xe Drops $30K After Minor Accident

Now could be a great time to pick up a Wrangler 4xe on the used market as they depreciate heavily

Nearly-New Wrangler 4xe Drops $30K After Minor Accident

  • Prices for the Wrangler 4xe start at just over $50,000 in the United States.
  • The hybrid Jeep is a top-selling PHEV, but its value is dropping quickly.
  • This example’s resale value was hurt by a minor accident on its Carfax.

Few people expect a new Jeep Wrangler, or any other regular car for that matter, to hold its value once it leaves the dealership lot. Depreciation is inevitable, but we suspect that the first owner of this 2024 Wrangler Sport S 4xe never anticipated losing nearly half the purchase price after driving only 4,300 miles (6,920 km).

When it was first ordered, this Wrangler carried with it a hefty sticker price of $60,840. This is more than $10,000 above MSRP due to options such as the $3,995 one-touch power-top and the $1,595 Technology Group that adds Alpine speakers, a vehicle-to-load system, and active noise cancellation. It also features the $1,995 Convenience Group, which includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a remote start system.

A Sharp Drop In Value

Earlier this week, the off-roader was listed for auction through Cars & Bids and traded hands for just $32,750. That’s $28,090 less than its sticker price, an astonishing amount of depreciation for a vehicle of this age and mileage.

No doubt impacting the value of this Jeep is the fact that the included Carfax report indicates it was involved in a minor accident earlier this year. The report notes that minor damage of this kind is usually only cosmetic and basically consists of dents and scratches to the body. Luckily for whoever won the auction, it appears to have been repaired and there are no visible signs of damage on the exterior.

Cars & Bids

While there’s no doubting the appeal of the Wrangler 4xe, backed up by the fact that it’s one of the best-selling plug-in hybrids in the US, it’s not what one would call cheap. In fact, with a $50,000 starting price, it’s roughly $18,000 more expensive than the most affordable ICE-only Wrangler on sale, the two-door Sport. Moreover, it’s almost roughly $10,000 pricier than an equivalent four-door Sport S with the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6.

So, was this auctioned Wrangler 4xe a clever buy, giving its new owner a serious discount off the original cost, or is it destined to keep shedding value as time goes on? Drop your take over in the comments.
