BAIC’s sub-brand, Beijing Off-road, officially launched the BJ40 Extended-Range Yuanjing Zhixing Edition today, priced at 204,800 yuan (28,700 USD). This new variant primarily focuses on upgrading its advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), introducing features like high-speed NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) to improve convenience for urban driving.
The new vehicle largely retains the “square-box” design of the current model. It features the brand’s five-hole front grille, integrating the headlights and daytime running lights. The exterior is further distinguished by an external spare tyre and a split-opening tailgate, complemented by “F”-shaped taillights.
Inside, the cabin boasts a dual-screen setup for the centre console and front passenger. Standard features across all trims include a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch central control screen, a 12.8-inch front passenger screen, and a 9-inch streaming rearview mirror. The infotainment system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, enabling AI voice-activated situational dialogues. A 10-speaker audio system with an independent amplifier is also part of the package.
The “Yuanjing Intelligent” technology architecture incorporates 26 high-precision sensors. These sensors enable a suite of ADAS functions, including high-speed NOA, intelligent parking assist, and memory parking.
In terms of power, the BJ40 Extended-Range Yuanjing Zhixing Edition features an extended-range electric powertrain comprising a 1.5T engine and dual permanent magnet synchronous motors. The engine delivers a maximum output of 188 horsepower, while the electric motors provide a combined total power of 548 horsepower and a peak torque of 655 Newton-meters. It is equipped with a 40.3 kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC pure electric range of 152 kilometres. Additionally, the new model includes an embedded metal roll cage.
This vehicle is the extended-range version of the BJ40 gasoline model, and this edition is the NEV model with an upgraded ADAS. Beijing Off-road is BAIC’s off-road brand, the brand is named after China’s capital city, Beijing.
