The value of the new Corvette ZR1 has soared, but the arrival of the hybrid ZR1X could reduce demand
1 hour ago

- Bidding on early Corvette ZR1s reached up to $360,000 this fall.
- Earlier this month, one example was flipped for a $70,000 profit.
- Despite penalties, buyers are paying huge premiums at auctions.
Some cars arrive with such anticipation that they become collectibles before their tires ever touch the road. The new Chevy Corvette ZR1, along with its even more extreme ZR1X sibling, is one of those cars.
In an effort to prevent those lucky enough to secure an allocation for a new Chevy Corvette ZR1 (or the ZR1X) from flipping the car for a quick profit, GM will void the vehicle’s warranty if it’s resold within 12 months of purchase.

However, that measure hasn’t stopped a few enterprising owners from testing the limits of GM’s patience, auctioning off their barely driven ZR1s online in search of easy profits.
When $360k Is Not Enough
The first example to appear for sale on Bring a Trailer was listed in mid-September and it was a Seal Wolf Gray model driven just 137 miles and equipped with the ZTK Performance Package.
That particular Corvette had $19,265 worth of options, bringing the total sticker price up to $205,460. Considering the performance offered up by the ZR1, that’s a very reasonable price tag.
But, as 2025 Corvette ZR1s are in short supply and demand for them is high, bidding on the car soared to $360,000. Remarkably, that was not enough for the Morrison Motor Cars, the dealership selling it, and the car did not reach its reserve.

In October, another C8 ZR1 hit Bring a Trailer. This example had a sticker price of $214,800 and had been driven just 40 miles. Bidding on it reached $333,000, but it also failed to hit the seller’s sky-high reserve.
The same month, a red 2025 ZR1 was listed with a $239,498 sticker price. Bidding on it reached $270,000, but again, it failed to meet the reserve.

Two other low-mileage ZR1s were sold on the popular auction site earlier this month. One of them traded hands for $278,500, a hefty premium over the $222,990 MSRP, while the other sold for $290,000, netting the seller almost $70,000 in profit.

Evidently, people are willing to pay significant premiums for the Corvette ZR1, even if the car they buy no longer has a warranty. Given all the hype surrounding the mid-engine performance model, it’s no shock that some owners are eager to sell theirs for a quick profit. However, the market is already showing signs of cooling and will likely continue to do so.

The first examples of the more powerful 2026 Corvette ZR1X are scheduled to start soon, and it’s already stolen some of the ZR1’s thunder. What’s more, it’s possible that an even more powerful and quicker C8 Corvette could be in the works.
