China’s global market share of auto sales reached 38% in October 2025

China Passenger Car Association Secretary-General Cui Dongshu shared that China’s global market share of auto sales reached 38% in October 2025. The Middle Kingdom continues to solidify its position as international car brands experienced an overall decline.

According to Cui Dongshu, the global auto sales reached 8.64 million units in October 2025 with a year-on-year increase of 4%. The month-on-month increase is 1%. As mentioned, China’s market share is 38% (+1% year-on-year). It means the sales volume is around 3.3 million vehicles.

At the same time, the Secretary-General highlighted that global auto sales totaled 79.25 million units from January to October 2025 with a year-on-year increase of 6%. Among them, China took over 34.9% of the market with 27.65 million units sold (+12% year-on-year). For clarity, 13.88 million units were sold in the US, 4.56 million units in India, 3.86 million units in Japan, and 2.61 million units in Germany.

Cui Dongshu shared that the Chinese market appears to be not only the largest, but also the most dynamic and fastest-growing. At the same time, the Russian market experienced a significant decline, and Mexico’s growth slowed. However, South American markets performed relatively well.

Secretary-General explained that this year, three Chinese automakers among the world’s top 10 have seen significant increases in market share. BYD ranked sixth, Geely ranked eighth, and Chery ranked tenth. At the same time, the development of electrification has led to a gradual decline in the market share of some international automakers. As a result, international brands experienced a decline in their overall market share.

Previously, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) shared that China’s vehicle sales reached 3.322 million units in October. New energy vehicles (BEV+PHEV+EREV) surged 20% year-on-year to a record 1.715 million units. They accounted for 51.6% of total new car sales.
