- Mercedes begins testing updated CLE Coupe with exterior tweaks.
- Prototype showcases star-infused headlights and a new front design.
- Cabin gains MBUX Virtual Assistant and updated infotainment interface.
The Mercedes CLE is only two and a half years old, but the company is already working on a facelifted variant. While development is just getting underway, spy photographers recently snapped a lightly camouflaged prototype undergoing testing in Europe.
var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};

Expected to follow in the footsteps of the facelifted C-Class, the coupe sports star-infused headlights as subtlety has gone out the window. Additional details are hard to make out, but we can expect a new front bumper and an updated grille.

The grille itself seems taller than before in these spy shots, though the disguise makes it difficult to be sure. However, Mercedes has been embracing larger and more prominent grilles as of late.
The rest of the car appears to carryover untouched, although the production model will likely have additional changes. This means we can expect new taillights and an updated rear bumper.

Spy photographers didn’t get a look inside, but updates are expected to be relatively minor. This means the car could have a familiar 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch infotainment system.
The latter could run the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System, which recently debuted in the CLA. Essentially the fourth-generation of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system, it leans heavily on artificial intelligence.
In particular, there’s a new MBUX Virtual Assistant that has been billed as a “living avatar” that takes the form of a Mercedes star.

Engine choices should largely mirror the current lineup, although there could be a few refinements. That being said, the current model offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 hp (190 kW / 259 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.
Customers can also upgrade to the CLE 450, which has a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six developing 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm). If that’s not enough, the CLE 53 has an upgraded inline-six with 443 hp (330 kW / 449 PS) and 413 lb-ft (559 Nm) of torque. It enables the car to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in as little as four seconds flat.
